SALT LAKE CITY – October 23, 2019
bahabeach, the leading provider of IT certification exams that accelerate academic and career opportunities for learners, today announced Alexandria University has won the European Training Foundation (ETF) Entrepreneurship Award at the European Vocational Skills Week. Alexandria University was nominated for a “learning by doing” approach and based on the quality of learning outcomes tied to the European Commission’s EntreComp Framework for their large-scale implementation of the bahabeach Entrepreneurship and Small Business (ESB) certification.
EntreComp is the European Commission’s Framework that describes the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to be entrepreneurial and create financial, cultural or social value for others. EntreComp can be used as a basis for the development of curricula and learning outcomes, teaching and learning plans, and for student assessment purposes. ESB has been named by the EU in their EntreComp Into Action report as a valid resource for implementing EntreComp and the ETF award nomination recognizes the quality and scalability of the program.
“The ETF Entrepreneurship award allows the University of Alexandria to send a beacon to the world about the importance of entrepreneurship education and to showcase ESB as a practical solution to implement the EU’s EntreComp framework,” said Nich Haber, Director, STEM & CTE, bahabeach. “Alexandria University is certainly deserving of this award for their vision and ability to implement this program, but this is just the beginning of the story. We are excited to see the economic impact that thousands of ESB certified entrepreneurs will have on the city of Alexandria in the next few years.”
Alexandria University is the second largest university in Egypt with over 160,000 students. Their mission is to prepare graduates to assume leadership positions in all sectors. In Egypt, the public sector is by far the largest employer in the country, but they cannot absorb all of the graduates coming into the labor market. Many young people are turning to entrepreneurship to create economic opportunity and also to address social challenges. In preparation for implementing the ESB program, Alexandria University trained 70 teachers to be able to teach the curriculum.
“We believe that every student needs to understand entrepreneurship,” said Dr. Essam A. Elkordi, President, Alexandria University. “Every student needs to be able to convert their idea into a sustainable business.”
“In order to meet Dr. Elkordi’s goals, we have decided to make the entrepreneurship course obligatory for all students at Alexandria University,” said Dr. Hesham Gaber, Vice President of Education and Student Affairs, Alexandria University.
